Medium-Voltage Inertia-Less Isolated Converter
Center for Distributed Energy, Georgia Tech · Atlanta, GA
Design and prototyping of a multi-level, medium-voltage, single-stage isolated converter — 800 Vdc to 2.4 kVac per slice. The single-stage approach removes the intermediate DC link that a conventional two-stage design needs, which takes out a large electrolytic capacitor bank and the reliability problem that comes with it.
Scope of the work
- Topology definition for the multi-level medium-voltage stage.
- High-frequency magnetics design, including the isolation transformer.
- Control and protection implementation.
- Hardware bring-up, firmware, and test and validation on the bench.
