A wideband, low-cost analog Rogowski coil current sensor, designed for closed-loop current control in high-frequency power converters.
Why build one
Commercial current sensors with the bandwidth these converters need are expensive and physically large, which is a problem when the whole point of the converter is density. A Rogowski coil is inherently non-intrusive and cheap; the difficulty is the integrator that turns \(\mathrm{d}i/\mathrm{d}t\) back into a usable current signal without drift or bandwidth loss.
The work
- Analog integrator design on PCB, with parameter sweeps across the integrator network.
- Bandwidth and accuracy characterisation against a reference sensor.
- Validation in closed-loop current control of a high-frequency converter.
